Pots for tomatoes/peppers

Just planning next years crops ...... and plan to grow the tomatoes/pepper and aubergines in pots is 9inch enough or 12 in better.  Also want to grow a tumbling tomatoe in a hanging basket I've got a couple hanging around but what size is best ?

tomatoes I grow in builders buckets, and aubs and peppers seemed to do Ok in flower buckets (free from some places 8 for 99p in Morrisons).

Keep an eye out for flower buckets at filling stations. They usually throw them away and are only too happy for you to take them.
