Saniblanc D
« on: July 17, 2012, 17:37 »
Does anyone know where I can get hold of some Saniblanc D in small amounts, or if there's a similar product available for disinfecting the soil?  I need enough for 50 sq m but don't know the best thing to use. Thanks.

Someone on another thread said they use Virkon or stalosan F

Flytesofancy do this one.

But when I do mine, if I can keep the chooks out for a couple of days I spray with jeyes, then garden lime over it and the next day Brian rotovates it for me.

apologies if I've said a forbidden word!!!!    (jeyes)   ;)

Thanks GrannieAnnie.
I've got some J*** and thanks for the link.  I want something stronger than Stalosan F so I'll try one of your suggestions but rotovating is out of the question (house built on old builders yard so underneath the mud and stones is hardcore), and once it's disinfected then I'll put down grass seed.  Hopefully that should do the job.
Thanks.

Norty Grannie  :)

I have to point out that it is no longer legal to use Jeyes fluid to sterilise or disinfect the soil.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Was just looking at the safety sheet etc for Saniblanc D.

Are you sure it's available for the amateur market?

Given the safety precautions and the fact that it is only sold in 25kg bags (in pallet loads of 40 bags) or 1000kg bags, that tends to suggest it's a professional use only product.

Those do sound like farmer quantities Yorkie, but I'm not familiar with this product. As mentioned people have used Virkon S for run cleaning, which I know comes in small quantities, or Stalosan F.

Ok - thanks all.  I've got J***'s, Stalosan F, Vanodine V18 and can buy any other options.  The soil I've got is mud, stones and underneath that, hardcore, so rotovating is out of the question.  I want to disinfect the soil to get rid of Avian Anovirus which caused Egg Drop Syndrome, so I assume I need something fairly strong, and when it's disinfected I can hopefully put on some compost/soil and grass seed before any more chickens go back.  Which would be the best disinfectant to use?

Does this Defra info mean that it can be used on the soil to treat Bird Flu or is it just for use in the coop/run?

It is legal to use as a disinfectant generally, but not on the soil.
