Hi,
I am putting raised beds in my garden as i was told when i moved in that i was not to plant any fruit trees or deep rooted produce as after a depth of 2 foot there could be something under the soil that could get in the fruits and make us ill... im sure she said clay topped or something? Does any one have any ideas about this??

I had big plans for some fruit trees and i even brought the one from my old house (which is now in a big pot, as my garden is a good size... 

Also what is the best/cheapest way to fill my raised beds?  Thanks

Is your house on the site of a nuclear reactor or chemical works?

Who told you not to plant deep rooted things. If it was the previous owner you could ask them what they buried there.

Don't try to fill your raised beds all in one go, just keep adding compost/soil each season. Depending on the size of the beds you could be looking at importing tons of material and some poor sucker has to shovel it all

No, not as far as i know, its my landlord, all she said was something about it being clay topped or something???  There is a playing field behind our house and both our garden and the field flood...??
