Got half a dozen of each planted through black weed supressant membrane and while they are absolutely thriving, I just don't have any sign of pumpkins or squashes yet.

When should I be expecting to see signs of swelling (oooerr) and if they are late, what should I be doing about it?

Have you had any flowers? The female flowers have a babyfruit behind, perhaps you need to hand pollinate

Plenty of flowers mumofstig. Couldn't tell you which are male and which female, but definitely got two sorts!

Do I just leave em to it? or is some, ahem, 'help' needed?

as i said before, the female flowers have baby fruits behind the flower.(so the male ones do not!)
If you don't seem to have many bees about, then it may be better to hand pollinate, explained on the link i posted. I've been 'helping' as the wet & windy weather we've had here hasn't been good for the bees
