Tomato recommendation
« on: March 26, 2010, 20:07 »
Hi.

I'm going to grow 'Sungold' again this year but I also want to grow a tomato that is more of a standard size eg around 1.5" to 2" diameter. (Maybe that's large, I don't know). Excellent flavour is paramount, of course.

I tried 'gardeners delight' a few years back and they were a bit small. Any recommendations for a tasty tom about the size I want?

BTW I use growbags, 3 plants to a bag - will that effect the size of the toms? i.e. if I gave 'gardeners delight' more root room would they produce bigger toms?

Ta.

my plot neighbour gave me some 'outdoor girl' last year and they were delicious and large (1.5-2"), so that's what I've got this year.

We grew Auriga for the first time last year, it is normal sized very fleshy same colour as Sungold with a good flavour. We grow quite a few varieties and I think different ones like different seasons which is possibly why there is always conflicting advice but I agree Sungold is always first on the team sheet.

Sorry for the late reply.

Thanks for all the suggestions - I'll have a look at the garden centres and see which of those I can get.

Cheers all.

You could try Moneymaker, i would stick to 2 plants per growbag as you get stronger plants ;)
