honeysuckle going wild!!!
« on: March 23, 2009, 14:11 »
Honeysuckle is poised to take over the garden ( one with small white flowers). I can trim back where I can reach but its rampant through a pyracantha whose thorns are lethal. As much as I pull it out ,I cant find where it has orginated. Will me just cutting it back eventually weaken it. It looks really healthy and the flowers smell fantastic but it just gets everywhere and I dont even know where it has come from.Any ideas as to keep it under control?

I think you'll have to find at least one of its root systems. It will have many.

The bottom end of our garden is much the same. I'm just cutting it back and digging out bits to try and tame it. I think it enjoys a pruning so it may even invigorate it if you just cut back some of the stems. :)
Sorry. ::)

Sounds similar to the type we have at work, which had roots underneath a temporary building. It withstood the building being demolished, weeks of builders boots trudging across it, only to spring to life again in the early summer. It's brilliant now twined through a rugosa hedge, and it gets cut back with e hedge cutter every year.

I thin k you'll have your work cut out to get rid of it so maybe just heavy prune and enjoy thr fantastic scent on those long warm sunny evenings. :D
