Extending dwarf bean cropping
« on: September 11, 2010, 21:49 »
I followed advice on the site and cut back my beans and fed them loads. Just discovered that fbb takes 3 months to break down but there was some there from planting so they did actually start growing again and producing flowers but it took ages!(about 6 weeks)
I need the space and had planted some others which are flowering so had to pull them today (shame!)
Now I know, I shall organise the beds better to allow next year's to crop again. Plants were stronger and stockier and there were lots of flowers.

I keep my dwarf beans picked regularly, even into fall when I fleece them against frosts and they'll keep cropping for quite a while. Just be sure the fleece is tacked down so strong breezes don't flip the fleece off, etc. When hard frosts finally hit them, that's when I cut them off at ground level and leave the roots. It helps, of course, to place them in the garden where they won't be in the way when you do next year's fall prepping.
