Dearer than you can buy??

I tend to make more carrot, apple and blackcurrant wine as I have a blackcurrant bush and a little apple tree.  The carrot is from a cheap bag of misshapen horse carrots, which was £1.80 for a big bag, about 10kgs I think.  then you've got the sugar.

I also sometimes use the cheap juice from the supermarkets like orange and apple.  Still less than buying bottled wine.

okay, things like wine yeast and stuff costs a bit more, but lasts for ages!

I'd say my wine works out at no more than £5 a gallon, often less, and if wifey likes thing like blue nun and riesling, she likes it a bit sweeter then, you just add a bit more sugar to it.

If my wine tastes a bit too dry for me after its bottled, I melt a little sugar in warm water and add it to the bottle I'm just about to drink!

Try Wurzels Orange Wine:

http://www.thehomebrewforum.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=48&t=1017

Orange flavour dissapears after fermentation, just gives it a fruity edge

Apparently comes out like a chenin, bit better than a blue nun but I think your OH will like it

Take a stroll in the country, track down crab apple, elderberry, bramble and damson.  They all make cracking wines.  For a small outlay, the returns are marvelous.   Cheers,   Tony.   (I like dandylion, but it is such a fiddly wine to make. )
I may be growing OLD, but I refuse to grow UP !
