Vitally important question:
Apple crumble - do you tip the crumble on top and just smooth it out or do you smooth it out and firm it down as well ?  ??? ??? ??? ??? ???

CAREFULLY cover the gloop with the crumble and level off.  Don't compress it at all.

 :)

Cheers,    Tony.

I love crumble, but Brian doesn't so I don't make it often, but definitely don't compress.  Sometimes I even leave it a little rough, so you get darker peaks!!!

I made an apple crumble last Sunday & added some crunchy breakfast cereal with fruit  nuts, you know the sort stuck in clumps with honey etc, instead of the oats I normally add. It was lovely

I like my crumble to look more like rough gravel rather than smooth sand, I get this effect by squeezing some of the crumble mixture in my fist and let it fall in rough lumps over the fruit. It creates a lovely crunch when cooked.
Think I will make a rhubarb and ginger one tonight!
