I remember them being planted on G World and they bunged in a whole load of manure if I recall rightly.  No point in seaweed extract as it will dissipate too quickly.  I'd probably bung in some FBB but not sure whether doing it at planting is the best idea.

I wouldn't plant through membrane.  Raspberries grow new canes which may have difficulty getting through the membrane.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Raspberries are shallow rooting, about 12'' deep max apparently.
They prefer a slightly acidic soil with a ph about 5 but Im told they do fine in soils with higher ph. They like well drained soil. They don't mind a bit of well rotted manure, so you could drop a few ton in when planting  ;).
But because of the shallow rooting, once planted it may not be wise to dig in any compost/manure for fear of damaging the roots. Mulch with compost/manure in spring and let it work in natrually.

The biggest problem is containing the roots. They can shoot up everywhere by sending out runners. I think a good pruning programme is key.
Some people contain their canes by burying slabs to form a kind of "Box", others keep them in pots buried in the ground.
I'm planning to put in Raspberries soon but I'm gonna do a bit more research into their spreading habits and any containment needed before I go steaming in and creating yet another pest.

As said before, lots of muck! Mine have been very thankful for it and given me a boutiful harvest so far this year. I really a mulch of muck every year aswell, just to keep them happy. Any canes that srout up where i don't wnat them i just cut off just below soil level.

Good luck.
Kate
Always thankful for advice!

Instead of weed membrane, after planting you can add a thick layer of wood chips or shredded leaves. This will not only conserve moisture, it will also suppress weeds and still allow new canes to come through. Some worry about slugs but they'r e not over keen on climbing up bristly raspberry canes.

My top tip would be to make sure you carefully remove all weed roots before planting and then add a mulch layer after planting to minimise any weed growth as they can be a pain to remove once established amongst the canes.
