Leeks germinating
« on: May 01, 2013, 08:17 »
Hi, how long do leeks take to germinate? I've had them in a cat litter tray for at least three weeks on a window cill. The previous ones that I did a couple of months ago, came up fine.  I'm beginning to think that I may have forgotten to put the seed in! I do them at work so that there is a small chance a customer came in just as I was about to sow them. :) Is it too late to sow some more?

Mine took 10 days on a warm windowsill.

It's probably a bit late to grow them to full size but you are in one of the warmer parts of the country - small leeks are better than no leeks if you really like them and baby leeks are very trendy of course!  ;)
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

Mine haven't appeared either and they have been in the same amount of time, problem being I have no excuse or customer to blame.

Does three children and being pregnant count

:) I will have to try that!  At least I have a few on the go anyway. Thank you for your replies. I will leave them for another week but I think I am kidding myself. :)

Mine took about 10 days outside in seed modules covered by plastic sheeting.
When weeding, the best way to know if its a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull it.

If it comes out easy, it was a valuable plant !

Mine took 8 days in the unheated greenhouse (that was only 3 weeks ago mind, so was lovely and warm in there during the day)
