Just picked a couple of strawberries BUT

why do some sort of split ( never seen it before) no idea what was grown in the space before as its our first year, not sure if you can see the large one, hgas formed a second  ???

Don't know why but don't forget only the best go to supermarkets (sound like the birdseye ad).  Quite common to have mis-shapen fruit really but you won't see in supermarket as they just waste them if not uniform.

That's right when i used to pick strawberries to earn myself some pin money, any that were mishapen or that had the stalk had pulled off was no good for the shop, so either thrown away
or into the basket we were allowed to fill with 'wasters' to take home......lots of jam and strawberry pavlovas in those years. :D
I think the mishapes are caused by incomplete fertilisation of the flowers :unsure:

Must get some meringues from the farm shop to go with mine.  Its against the law......... my law not to.  Can't remember the name of them but I get them from Runcton farm on the Lagness Road Runcton (incase you are passing by).  They are superior to the supermarket meringues, probably sold in lots of farm type shops.
