Has anyone used hoola hoops for raised bed netting supports or would they be a bit flimsy?

I've seen some on ebay, 6 for £8 and reckon they could be a good alternative  :)

Tesco do them in the toy department.  Strap them together with a batten and they will work, but not in a windy place I would think.  Plus, they have pictures, patterns and sparkly bits on.

Lol at least they would be used in the comfort of my own garden instead of being on a lotty!

I  thought it was quite a good idea anyway!  ;)

I bought some off screwfix cos I wasn't patient enough to wait til I found some - seemed about as cheap as anywhere and no delivery cost as I was ordering weed fabric at same time...

Lengths of metal coduit that electricians use might be of a suitable size to fit into alcathene.
If it's a bit to big warm the end of the water pipe and it should force onto the metal support.
Conduit can be cut to length and hammered into the ground to form support posts.  :)

I've used the blue water pipe stuff for tunnels/cloches, net and plastic works good.  You need to put battens along the length, I like one each side and one over the top and tie them on, this hold it ridged and holds up the covering. It works best if you push canes in first then slip the pipe over the canes.  Put a stake at each end in the middle of the row and bunch up the cover and tie to the stake. I lay planks with bricks on along the sides to hold the cover down.

Edited to added, sorry just seen I've missed all the posts on page one

hi,
Just though I would let you know I found some mdpe (blue water pipe) on toolstation.com £20.41 for 20mm x 50m and £22.94 for 25mm x 50m. This is the price and includes delivery supposedly next working day.
This is the cheapest I could find online delivered.
Hope this helps someone. I have gone for the 20mm as this is about right to shove onto bamboo canes for support.
Now I've bought it, I just know someone is going to tell me somewhere cheaper!

Not a bad price then as I paid £10.41 for 25m of 20mm.

All I need to do now is read this thread carefully to work out what lengths I should cut this into.

Any advice welcomed.  ;)

Might consider some of the 25mm from toolstation if this works out well although my local supply will sell 25m of 25mm for £14.00. Not at all bad if you want a shorter length.  ;)

for a 4' bed I cut 2m lengths (shoved the end of the roll down a 2m bit of downpipe I had to make measuring and cutting easier). These are actually a bit long so will do 1.8m next time

Thanks Savbo.... Interesting idea using drainpipe but I have no set beds so might use canes pushed into the blue-piping - this way I can move the hoops around as needed.

25 metres (of 20mm) divided by something sensible / useable and economical
Decisions, decisions.

What's the best type of netting to go over it and where is best to buy it?

I've got the piping left over from some work at ours but now wonder what to put over it.
