big cloches...now what???
« on: March 22, 2011, 20:43 »
hi,

Just made three 3 metre by 1 metre by 1 metre high cloches covered with sterilite polythene.  Very pleased with them.  Trouble is I'm not sure how to get the best out of them.  We're in Derbyshire where the growing season isn't that long.

I have eight 3 metre by 1 metre beds in the allotment.

Any advice on getting the best use out of my nice new cloches welcome.

you have 8 of them all 3m long set the things out and grow everything under them lol
thing is with poly water dont get through and its a right pain trying to water under small poly cloches

even if you fail to put anything under them set them out to help warm the ground up?

They'll help when you want to put your tender stuff out....sweetcorn, courgettes etc, cos you won't have to worry so much about cold nights.
Have you thought of a way to anchor them down when it's windy?

^^ what he said.

I have 8ft by 4ft, with 4 plastic hoops and enviromesh cover, based on a 3"x2" wooden base. Being enviromesh I expected the wind to pass straight through but I've see them shift a full half bed (until they upturn and hit the ground). I now have short canes on each sides of the beds to restrict unwanted movement.
