Title: yellow chicken poop
Post by: vascat on July 03, 2012, 12:50
Our Sussex is not laying and producing normal consisteney poop but the white is pale yellow.
She looks healthy has a clean vent, is active and eats as usual.

Advice please as to why the yellow tinged poop.

Have you ran a look at the poo thread on the forums? Think it's in the FAQ sticky area but I might be wrong. Yellow poops can be normal, indeed a fully yellow poop is expected imonce every eight or so poops. Does the poop you are referring to look like nothing you've seen before? It could be quite normal?

I've searched every chicken forum on the web (including the brilliant poop pics) I think but have found nothing.  The poop looks absolutely normal apart from the pale yellow of the white.  I am sure she can't be unique!

Ah!  One of mine has similar droppings and I think it's because she eats her soft shelled eggs.  Could your be laying soft shelled eggs and eating the egg yolk?  Keep an eye out for shell or soft shell which may have been discarded.

I think we have the same problem, she has been laying shell less eggs  we think and Saturday I found one with the membrane intact.  Will look out for discarded soft shells.  Have given them  oyster shell and ground up egg shells over the last two weeks so hopefully she will get back to normal laying.
Thank you very much for such a prompt reply
