Managed to get the attention of some frogs at the lottie, so would like to keep them there with a pond, so that's been added to the list of things to do, so lets see your DIY pond victory's for some ideas, build up pics would be great aswell :)

At the moment mines just a plan. I am going to be sinking a bath that was left on site into the ground.  I'll be providing an access/egress slope and it will be surrounded by a 'wild' area with logs, twig bundles, bee houses, leaf piles etc.  I hope to put some heavy duty plastic into pits and then backfilling for bog plants as well

Sounds great, Ive just nabbed 2 baths which were ready for landfill, was planning on using 1 for a pond and the other for growing veg in and putting it somewhere I don't have any space, was just worried about giving it some sort of 'staging' in it so its not just a straight drop down into the middle and to help frogs etc to get out, but what could I use?

You don't want fish!  Make a wildlife pond, they're much more interesting  :)

You have to be aware that ponds, or even baths, are not allowed on some sites. Check your tenancy agreement first

I made mine with a scrap of butyl I'd got. It's neglected at the moment but it looks well despite my not going near it, other than to mow around the periphery.  I did have a solar fountain on it but that soon conked  :nowink:  What I would say is that make sure it's level. I made mine only to find the water running out at one end as I'd not levelled it properly. No great problem as I just ended up with a boggy bit at one end which is quite desirable for a wildlife pond  :D  Just bear it in mind is all I'm saying  :)

i had a pond on my old plot, no mozzies noticed, i think dragonflies eat the mozzies if a decent wildlife pond gets going.

Wow!  You got that off Freecycle   Well done. You'll have a great time getting that up and running. While you're on Freecycle you might be able to ask for some plants for it  :)

We have 2 ponds,1 is the wildlife ponds where the frogs spawn and newts breed..

And the other is still getting stablished plant wise and has the fish in..

The cats and birds use it a lot for drinking :)

I would love to show you my pond but I am having a stupid moment and can't work out how to insert an image!  It has lots of vegetation, frogs newts and insects including dragonflies and damselflies but no mosquitoes, and a rainwater feed from the flat roof because it was always losing water!
