If you sow early short peas (these are faster to mature) there is time to get a crop in.

Carrots will get to the skinny baby size if sown now ---again an early variety will give you the best chance of having an edible crop. (They do overwinter without any trouble too)

Be warned though peas sown this late, are likely to get mildew.

Don't stick too much to what the packets say.  Keep an accurate record of planting date and cropping date and the knowledge you accumulate will hold you in good stead.

I'm off to my mountain top now to mumble my mantra.

If you go for a fast maturing carrot like Amsterdam Sprint you should get a crop of baby carrots at least. I make late sowings in containers then bring them into the greenhouse to get fresh carrots over winter.

Oooh, that's a good idea, would potato sacks do as containers?
My husband's a water sign, I'm an earth sign, together we make mud :-)
