Title: egg bound
Post by: chicklit on April 28, 2009, 10:15
we're over the issue of soft shells and four of my new hens are laying beautiful, strong shelled eggs (still small as yet). I've got 14 hens in all, all pol. One has had an increasingly dirty bottom for the last 3 days. I've been washing it. She is a little subdued at times but still eating. Today, I felt under her and it feels like there is an egg there. I've sat her in a warm bath, which she seemed to like. I've oiled her vent, too. Now I hope you'll forgive my ignorance with this bit, but the bit the egg comes from is also the bit poo comes from, but I know there are two seperate "shutes"!! So how do I know when I stuck a finger in, it's going down to the egg, to get the oil down!! So sorry I'm dumb, but your kind thoughts are apreciated.

Thank you Auntie!! I've oiled my finger and inserted it. I can feel what I think is an egg shaped lump, but it's always under my finger covered by innards or whatever. So am I in the wrong place, or isn't it an egg. Can't get "in" under it anyhow. Her eyes are cloudy now and her vent is constantly moving as if she is trying to expell something. Can't get to it though, unless I'm totally off track.
