I was thinking of buying a cherry crown morello cherry tree from Thompson and Morgan. It comes from a Gisella 5 rootstock, but it doesn't say how big it gets! Not a real concern, I love cherries, but also it will be behind a shed, north-east facing with no direct sunshine, until it gets to about two metres (the size of the shed!) It is the only area I can put it, the size is no problem, but it would be nice roughly how large it will get, and will it really survive (and thrive) without any direct sunlight! Help!

A quick google of this rootstock indicates that it's a dwarfing variety. T&M don't say anything more specific than 'compact' and that it is suitable for sun or semi-shade - but also say in the blurb that it would suit a north facing wall ???

I'd have my doubts about how much fruit you'd get in shade but it might be worth a try.

We grew a Morello cherry on the north wall of our previous house. When it was in flower people would knock on our door to ask what our gorgeous 'ornamental' tree was. Then later we would get loads of fruit.
Gisella is a dwarfing rootstock so I don't think it will get bigger than your shed but you will have to net it as birds love the cherries and will strip the tree before they are fully ripe.
Morellos are sour cherries, mostly used cooked or in brandy. They freeze well and are absolutely delicious!
