Potatoes stayed in the ground over winter
« on: March 26, 2011, 17:37 »
I left a row of spuds in the ground over winter as the early heavy snow and hard frosts caught me out. I dug them up today expecting them to be full of holes and mushy but a good 90% of them look fine. Will they be ok to eat?
Are you looking for an allotment (full or to share) in South East Sheffield. PM me for details.

I found a couple in a bin when I emptied it out. I'd grown Christmas taters and left the bin in the greenhouse. We had them yesterday mixed in with the first Jersey Royals of the year. The Jerseys were delicate in flavour and construction, our taters were firmer and absolutely delicious! :tongue2:

As long as your taters are sound and not green they should be fine. Go for it! :D

I've probably got some in the ground myself and will eat them if I find them!
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Yesterday I dug up a load the previous tenant had left - they had already sprouted but had very little damage.
