I'm forever chucking out the end of sliced loaves, but know I should be turning them into breadcrumbs and freezing them.

What's the easiest way to do this without creating too much washing up?

I forever do make breadcrumbs, as I need them and what you can buy is rubbish, no freezing involved.
Air dried stale bread, crust and inside, food processor and store it in an air tight jar or muslin. :)

Got to be stone dry and free from mould, nothing else required, will store for ages.

Before I got my food processor I used a cheese grater, but it was very messy and laborious.

EASY ...
Freeze the bread still in slices.  Make breadcrumbs in the food processor as and when you need them.   Yes it gives you dishes to do but the assumption is that the food processor might be needed for another part of the recipe.

OR ...
Freeze the bread still in slices.   Make a ton of breadcrumbs in the food processor and refreeze.  Only one set of washing up to do.  Better still, do it before you need to use food processor for summat else.

So why the bother of freezing them, where and when and what for was it invented? :?

all we do is freeze the left over bread over a few weeks then get it all out bung it in the oven so its dry and blitz it and back into the freezer in a bag .
no problem so far.

Toast!  Heel toast is much fought over here!  Nothing much left for crumbs. 8)

Oh and the slightly stale stuff is great for eggy bread...

Definitely eggy bread.  Note to self, don't stand too close when making eggy bread and 8 months pregnant unless wearing fire retardant clothes!!

I tend to use crushed up cornflakes in place of breadcrumbs.
On the very steep learning curve of organic veg growing!!!!
