Can anyone tell me how much flubenvet per chicken, and what is the best way to give it.  I think I read somewhere on here that a pinch per hen in a grape for 7 days.

i think i worked it out last time as a level teapoon per kg of food just mixed in - which was easy in a 6kg feeder! but the grape idea sounds good - would be interested to know if that is right amount too.

 There are a number of different methods of administering flubenvet. The correct dose rate is 1.2g Flubenvet Intermediate (about ¼ teaspoon full) mixed into one kilo of feed and the chickens should be fed on this for 7 consecutive days. Large birds will eat more feed, smaller ones will eat less and so they get the correct dose for their body weight. It is a good idea to restrict treats to a very small amount in the afternoon while your hens are being wormed to ensure that they eat sufficient wormer.

Another method, if you only have a few birds, is to dose each bird individually each day for 7 days. It is not possible to weigh out the correct dose on domestic scales so use a “pinch” (about 0.1- 0.2g) of flubenvet per bird per day for 7 days, I hide this in a grape which the hens gobble up without hesitating  or you can add it to some porridgy food, mashed potato or whatever your girls like to eat.

30ppm which is 120g in 100kg of feed - or as I do - 6g in 5kg food. Basically, I make up a batch enough to feed the chickens for a week and have it as the only food source for them.

Beware the manufactureers instructions:

Birds may only be slaughtered for human consumption 7 days after the last treatment (no problem for eggs).
Avoid direct skin contact, avoid ingestion by humans. Wash affected parts if skin contact occurs. If eye contact occurs immediately rinse thoroughly with water. If operation involves potential exposure to dust... (mask details can be provided if you want!)

No, Shazzer, they are little maggoty things. You can buy them all ready dried so they aren't as horrid as they could be. Hens go crackers for them - my Dad bought a tub of the dried ones to give to the wild birds in their garden, but they didn't like them ( :roll: ) so my hens got them instead.....and they loved them.

I mix a few pinch's of flubenvet with a days supply of mealworms for the chucks and repeat for 7 days, basically because they seem to eat corn & pellets rather inconsistently, mealworms i know will be gobbled up.  In those oft repeated words of Munty "werks for me".

The chooks LOVE those don't they Ruby, much more expensive that the dried ones though.
