I rigged one up last year using a timer bought in Lidl. I used it to water strawberries in hanging baskets, hanging baskets, raised beds and pots in the front garden.
It came on twice a day: early morning and late evening and worked well for me. :)
My only complaint  >:((and my own fault) was in using a small bore pipe, this year I am going up to 15mm and branching off in microbore in order to maintain water pressure. The pipe runs from the outside tap in the back garden over the shed roof and along the side of the house (30+ feet). The vast array of nozzles available should make it easy to come up with a suitable one for grow bags.

I have been meaning to install some labour-saving watering for years ...

I wonder if watering in the same place each time is an issue - does water get to the "far side" of the plant, for example, or do people use little "sprinkler" type nozzles

rather than just drippers
