« on: June 28, 2010, 18:32 »
im extending my veg patch in my back garden and because the soil is mostly clay i thought i would grow green manure over the top of it and then dig it in, but i wanted to know when do you grow it, does it properly go once you have dug it in and is it any good etc.

thanks for your advice

i put hungarian grazing rye in my beds last year around september time, i seems to have done ok, when i wanted to get rid of it i just started to walk on it for a week or two then forked it in, eventually it broke down.

Field beans of the winter variety sown Aug - Sept seem to work on heavy soil. They can be dug in around March time.
