Hello everyone! Now, I love Dandelion and Burdock, and I have found a few recipes for making an alcoholic version online, I was wondering if anyone has ever made any and if they feel it is worth doing? I find the shop bought stuff is getting weaker and weaker!
I have lots of dandelions growing near me, but no burdock, may try to grow some!
Any advice would be appriciated, regards, Joe

Nah then Joe,
When we were kids around 35 years ago we used to make a similar drink to the shop bought stuff but tastier, give it a whirl.
A couple of thumbs of Burdock root
A couple of thumbs of Dandelion root
A thumb of ginger
A single star anise
A tsp of citric acid
A bag of sugar
A bottle of soda water
A pint and half of water
Grind/chop burdock, dandelion, ginger, star anise.
Put everything apart from the soda and sugar into a large pan and boil for twenty minutes.
Sieve everything really well using a filter or a muslin.
While hot add sugar and stir well until fully dissolved. Allow to cool and decant into a storage bottle.
Ensure soda is cold, put about 50ml of the D&B syrup into a pint glass, add ice and fill with the soda, add a fresh picked and slightly crushed mint leaf into the glass and hey presto.
Very refreshing, not alcoholic, we loved it as kids.
Hope you try it and enjoy it, all the best.

it showed you how to make dandelion and burdock on one of hugh fernley whittingstalls shows - it was repeated a few weeks ago. it showed you how to identify burdock in the hedgerow aswell.

Thanks for the recipe, I will definately try that as soon as my burdock is ready! And thanks about the hugh fernly heads up, will check it out on 4OD!

I've made both alcoholic and non alcoholic versions. Both taste great, but were nothing like the over sweetened versions you buy in the shops.
I must however point out that it is illegal to dig up the root of any wild plant without the land owners permission.

We have been making wine for about 10 yrs. now and Dandelion is my husbands favorite.
I got the recipe on line for him. Every year I have to pick enough for him to make 5 gallons!! Very time consuming picking 5 gallon bags full! I pick and throw them in the freezer until he is ready to make wine with them. He did say he would like a double batch this year...but I told him he would have to pick the other 5 gallons, so needless to say he will only be making 5 gallons again.

Yes it is worth doing...
