If you have a pigeon problem, netting is a must do. It will also help keep the butterflies off.

The seed packet should say how high your variety grows, but you should be OK with about 3'.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Last year my sprouts were totally devastated by Pigeons.
I did net but it wasn't secure enough at the bottom and the Pigeons just walked in and ruined my plants overnight. They never recovered and I got a useless crop.

This year I am netting and making sure the netting is securely tied down.

My packet of Sprouts seed says to plant until mid-April, but other varieties may vary.

Alternative might be to buy plants from garden centre (buy from a reputable source, otherwise you run the risk of importing club-root :( )

always net or dont get!   my sprout cages are 1200 high they are ample, i have just put some plants in from my seed, they was popping out of the pot they was in so had to, but i also some plug plants coming so would imagine you could still buy some around or of the net, also stake them they dont like to be moved in the ground.

Just for info: for my 4-feet wide beds 2M wide netting is not tall enough, so I bought 3M wide - which gives me about 3 feet [vertical] clearance (2M wide netting on 4' bed would only give 15" clearance).

Don't forget to cut the water pipe long enough :) ... some of mine are a bit short and the netting isn't far enough above the crop. 3M netting needs almost 3M "hoops" - easy to cut a bit more off, of course, rather than as my metal work teacher used to say "Kristen: You'll be needing the Putting-On machine then?" :(

I support my netting on bamboo hoops from my local 99p shop.  They have a nice natural look and only cost 99p for 3.

my advise for what its worth is to net everything.
If the birds don't get you the cats, rabbits or foxes will.

The Sprouts plants?  Stick a cane in next to each plant and tie the plant to it - it thus cannot "rock" as far as if it were not tethered at all.

Sorry if I've got the wrong end of the stick

dig hole first, then make sure you use brassica mix! then put stake in first so you dont damage roots, put in plant, drop soil back around and firm down hard, cardboard the plant stem and water, bobs your unc....
