Sprouts
« on: November 23, 2009, 11:20 »
For the first time I have grown sprouts and have for some reason (me being daft) have got them mixed up with summer broccoli and Prima and greyhound cabbages. All plants are healthy and getting tall but how do I know which the sprouts are and more importantly, as I can't see any sprout growth yet...is there still time to have sprouts for Christmas ?

If there's no buttons developing yet, and depending on the seasonal variety and when you sowed and planted them out, by now, you should be able to see the sprout buttons developing in the leaf axils. The plants should be taller than the cabbages, and the summer broccoli should be finished by now. Have a look at the info for harvesting time and the picture on the seed catalogue. Hope you did plant sprouts - perhaps buy some in ready for Crimbo just in case!
I work very hard so don't expect me to think as well.

When did you sow them??

I very much doubt you'll have sprout's for Christmas. :(

Depending on the type, sprouts should be about 3ft tall by now, and easly distinguest from other brasicas.
I may take my time.....but i'll get there in the end.

There are tiny nobbly bits on the leaf axis come to think of it. They are about 3 ft tall now. I sewed them in March/April.

Sound's like a late variety to me. I still dont think they will be developed enough for Christmas, but you should still see some.  :)

Just a quick one, how close have you planted them to each other??
