Thanks Snowdrops, they are wooden bins, built from pallets and lined with weed surpessing fabric. I will definitely try the used coffee grounds. Off to the local Costa/Starbucks right now.

Visited twice to drop off green waste for the compost bin and then leaves for the leaf mould one.  Had a quick check for storm damage.  I was OK, but returned a few compost bin lids and bits and pieces to other plots.

Pasta bake with a sauce I found in the freezer.  It turned out to be a spag bol beef and lentil combo.  I added some quartered fresh tomatoes before baking and cheese  :)

It is legit that you need to sign the prize warrants.
They did announce withdrawal of paper cheque payments of prizes some years ago but were persuaded to defer doing so and as far as I am aware this change is still in the distant long grass.

Like most folks I have mine paid direct into the bank, but like to go on to the NS&I 'have I won' page onthe second working day of each month to check mine, Mrs HGB's etc.   (We have the same value of bonds exactly and over almost every year she wins something like thirty percent more than I do.  Reckon Ernie must fancy her)

They lowered the prize pot this month and are apparently going to do so again in January.  Sheesh.

Firstly, what sort of bins are they?
Maybe stand the bins on weld mesh & fold up round the sides? I’ve had them in the winter in mine (rats) in the past, but not last year when I started added large additions of used coffee grounds. Could be coincidental or maybe it deters them. You could try it & see?

Can anyone suggest a way to keep Rats and Mice out of my compost bins I do not put any cooked foods, meat or dairy in there, only veg peelings, used tea bags, cardboard, grass clippings and any green waste from the allotment.
The little blighters have chewed their way through the compost bins then into my shed probably looking for other goodies.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.
