raspberry canes
« on: April 13, 2011, 18:57 »
I know its probably a bit late in the yr for this question but here goes any way, i acquired 5 canes from another plot holder the other day im guessing there summer canes as there 5ft tall + and full of leaves and my autumn fruiting canes are only just showing there heads as it were. Well i just plonked them in yesterday with the wifes help and neither of us know if it's to late to prune them back? and if it is do we just leave them to there thing this yr and the prue in late autumn? Any help appreciated.

If they are as advanced as you say, I'd have thought you'll lose a crop this year if you prune now.  Why not wait until after they've fruited.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Mark I would definitely follow Yorkie's suggestion - let them get on with it this year and hope for the best. Any pruning could result in no fruit or a very small harvest at best.
