One of the girls is currently laying one egg a week and they look like this..

Should I be concerned?

(I hope this hasn't been answered before..this is my first post here ::))

Hi Phil and welcome.
How old is she?
Odd shaped eggs are normal for hens that are getting on a bit which is why mass egg producers get rid of their hens when they reach 18 months  :(, nothing wrong with them just that they don't look as appealing to the shoppers at the supermarkets - not all uniform and boring looking.
Staffies are softer than you think.

Looks like it could be a self incubating egg..... with that element running round it.... is there a plug on it at all?

:D   :tongue2:

I have read it can be caused by the hen having a shock.... but i have had a couple of wrinklies and cant put a reason to it :(
I love Pekins, Polands and Seramas :) and eggs!!!

It can be a sign of respiratory disease.  Does your hen seem in good health otherwise?

Thanks for the replies.
She's a buff sussex and is 4+ years old. She seems in fine health (if looking a little old around the face).
She stopped laying at Christmas time and started again 3 weekends ago. We put this down to the weather.
All three of her eggs have looked like this.
There is no plug, the contents are perfect.
