Grow Your Own / Re: Growing Potatoes This Time of Year

I was looking at some seed potatoes in a garden centre the other day and it said seed potatoes for autumn planting  i though where on earth would i grow them maybe in the poly tunnel in tubs but as I've never attempted to grow potatoes in the winter i think its a no brainer to consider growing potatoes outdoors over the coming months frost's and all

I know some gardeners have planted potatoes late summer to harvest new potatoes for Christmas but to me its hit and miss but everyone to there own personally I'm keeping to growing my potatoes come spring

Grow Your Own / Growing Potatoes This Time of Year

Hi Everyone!  I have some rotted straw bales and am attempting to grow potatoes in them.  They are lofted over the chitted taters about two feet.  Right now, they are all just peeking out.  Is this a really dumb idea?  Do you think they have a chance outside this time of year?

Tonight it's ham, coleslaw, a few leafy bits and a jacket spud  :D

I've had the NHS letter and email telling me to book mine, but nearest bookable sites are miles away, so as a non-driver
Local group practise was quick off the mark last time, but not this time, it seems - there's talk of doing flue and Covid boosters at the same time, so perhaps that needs more organisation.
Guess I'll have to wait a bit longer then, for mine.

Husband has his booked for next week.  Will have to wait till November for mine.

We're still wearing masks and avoiding crowded places as much as possible, surprising how many people have abandoned masks and thrown common sense out with the bath water

This isn't going to go away anytime yet and we need to adapt to live with it

Last night was curry made with homegrown onion, garlic, chilli, squash and greens.  All I added that was bought was rice and curry spices.

Tonight is going to be chilli as OH is late back and I am not sure exactly when he will get home.  It can sit and blip without spoiling  :)
