Sour dough in breadmaker?
« on: August 31, 2009, 11:27 »
Has anyone made sourdough  bread in a breadmaker. I've been making it in the oven but it pains me to heat the oven for just a loaf and if you batch bake them they are not good after being in the freezer.

My plan is us the breadmaker to mix ingredients and then reset the breadmaker to do a "french bread" cycle beginning 5 hours later, do you think it will work?

No idea but your pioneering research will be much appreciated...
Self-sufficient in rasberries and bindweed. Slug pellets can be handy.

It worked!!!! I put the same ingredients as for the handmade one into the breadpan and used the breadmaker to mix it (first 20 mins of pizza dough cycle) then stopped it. I reselected the french bread programme and put the timer on so the loaf would be ready in 8 hours. Perfick.

A lot less energy than heating the oven up to warp speed 9.

Only touble is I can only eat a tiny bit of bread or I feel awful, I persuaded OH to have a slice and let me have the corner, oh it was so good but I will resist a full slice, I will resist, I will........

Are you still resisting ?  :tongue2:
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

It's easier to resist by today cos Sourdough bread is not so good the second day and I've made several whaetfree treats today. Once the rain started the only sensible option was stay in and do cooking ( it put off having to start the ironing or cleaning )
