Title: Beds not ready - what will I miss???
Post by: puravida on October 20, 2006, 22:34
Looks like I'll not have my beds ready for at least another month yet. Potentially might be early next year in fact. I've got 5 beds - each 8' x 4' planned out and ready to go but just not had the time to build them.

Am I going to miss cruicial crops going in??

Do I pull out all the stops and get them sorted asap??

Don't worry spring will be time enough to plant loads. Just get the soil in top condition - mulch with manure/compost (except where you're planning to put carrots etc).

That's good news!
Thanks!

Any other tip to get everything tip top?

Planning on 1 or 2 beds for peas/beans etc, 1 for brassicas, 1 for spuds and carrots, 1 for toms but not really sure what else to do or how else to split/prepare it.

peas beans brasicas manure . dont manure where your going to put carrots or roots
tomatos wil love the manure and it will hold moisture as well
just dump the manure on now and rake it level over the beds ( makes it easir to dig in ) and if you cannot get on them till  end feb /march then dont worry , turn them over when you can and your set for a new season
