I have followed the orange juice receipe as recommeded to novices, but there is no bubbling going on at all!! It appears to have settled in the bottom. I only made this yesterday.
What should I do to help it get going?

can you post the recipe or link to it
a few problems that you could consider that i can think of off the top of my head without seeing the recipe then i cant say weather any of them will be applicable to you
1) was the must too hot when the yeast was added
2)is the wine too cold now
3)was there any presertives in the fruit juice
if you can get me the recpie and the methoed that you used i caould come up with mero sugestions

I think it might be too cold now, tested temp before adding yeast. Could I take some out and warm up and put back?

ok if it is too cold then warm the whole demi up and if it hasnt started to ferment after 24 hours then add another packet of yeast provideing theres no other problems then this should fix it

Warmed it, added yeast, no good. Should I just pour it away and try again?

wouldnt throw it away just yet got a few more things to try 
1) if you still have the juice containers then check the ingrediants for presertives especially potassium storbate
2)if you are using a 5l water bottle as a demi as in the link posted check arround the lid where the bung is for leaks (it may well be fermenting you just cant see it)
3) give it a good shake to airate the must as the yeast  will strugle in an airless must

if this dosent work i can point you in the direction of an even simpler recipe than the one you linked to thats worded so even the simplest of minds i.e me can understand it

Couple of thoughts come to mind:

The orange juice may have been more acidic then normal and the result is therefore more acidic then the yeast can tolerate.

The yeast may have been dead. I used Youngs Super Yeast on a wine 2 months back and it did nothing. Had to get a newer yeast that was fine.

Did you lob the yeast in or make up a starter first?

It may simply take a few days to get going if thrown in, or the shock of being thrown in has killed the yeast.

It may be too cold.

Is the air lock in and airtight?

If you have any yeast then make a starter in a small jar: yeast, sugar and luke water water. Let it become active and bubble for a couple of hours (somewhere warm) then add this to the main lot. At least if it starts to bubble you know that the yeast and starer is OK.

Thanks for that, I will try that. It has gotton a bit chilly in Lincs. At least I will know if the yeast works.
