I bought some cabbage seedlings last month. They were planted out the first week of May. The question is, did I plant them out too early?

The varieties in question are: Durham early, stonehead, and January king. I planted out some sprouts at the same time. The plants are quite large now and very healthy looking.

Are they likely to keep over winter?

Your JK cabbge should be OK for winter harvest, as well as your sprouts.

Stonehead will probably come in during the autumn.

As for the Durham Early, I would think you'll get those early as well! For use as a spring cabbage the seed are not sown until around July. I'm just wondering if they may "bolt" as they are used to a cold period.

I still have some Durham seedlings left. If I start harvesting the ones already in the ground, do you think there'd be any harm in eating immature cabbage?
