Sprouts more like mini cabbages
« on: November 13, 2021, 11:17 »
I have two sprout plants. One is significantly ahead of the other - No idea why but that’s fine.  The mature one has decent sized sprouts from the bottom to about half way up but they are quite open, with no firm sprout bit in the middle, then smaller versions towards the top  What am I doing wrong please?

When I used to grow, it happened to mine once.  I picked them and chopped up and used anyway.  :)  Mrs Bouquet

Pull the blown ones off*. I find it does help stop the remaining sprouts on the plant going the same way.

edit* and as Mrs B says, eat them!

I’ve already prepared them for dinner tonight :) But does anyone know why they have blown, and how I stop them doing it next time?

Blown sprouts are normally attributed to not being in firm enough ground, staking the plants can help stop wind rock, plus not digging over the ground so it remains firm before planting.

You'll hear plenty of speculation as to why (too hot, too cold, too much water, too little water, stress etc etc) but I reckon it's simply because someone wore red undies on a Monday.
