The build of my cold frame is taking a little longer and using more wood than I originally anticipated, however whilst surfing the web looking for heights and design guides I came across a suggestion of putting a sacrificial batten/timber at the bottom where the frame where it is in contact with the ground, so it can easily be stripped and replaced when it starts to rot.

Anyone done that, or have an anticipated life of a frame before rot kills it.

Any other suggestions to make it last longer?

I was thinking along those lines, I've made the coldframe out of treated gravel boards and used roofing batten to screw them together,  But if I use them at the bottom, I was thinking of lining up the edge of the batten with the outside face of the gravel board so that the extra width is inside the coldframe and rain will not stand on top of the timber.
