Bee suppliers anywhere in the North East
« on: June 10, 2010, 17:52 »
Hello guys,

I am half way through my beekeeping course and have made the hive, read the books, now I need to find some bees to keep.

I have tried looking in the Yellow Pages and there are very few bee suppliers (as in the livestock, not equipment) and it seems it is not what you know but who you know when it comes to finding out who has bees to sell.

I would prefer to buy my bees locally, but if I must travel to get them then I will.

Does anyone know of any beekeepers that have nucs to sell in the North East please?  I realise it is starting to get late in the season and that they will need help to establish as a strong colony but I'm willing and able to put in the time for it.

Thanks, Su

Can't suggest anything other than your local beekeeping association, which I guess you'll have already tried  :(
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

So can I assume you are one of my classmates then Snoozi?

I am planning on getting the bees next spring, setting up for them over winter.

amckeen,  possibly, yes!  are you training at Finchale college?  I'm the redhead who asked who owns a swarm at the last meeting with the Bee inspector :)   See here for my mug shot :

I have to admit to not having found anyone's names out and we've all been going there for the last 5 weeks

Yes Yorkie,  I have joined the DBKA and hoped that that would open up more options, but sadly no.  One of the class took ownership of a package of bees a couple of weeks ago from someone in Stockton, but she wasn't there last week for me to get the details.

I did read the other day that the Isle of Man are shipping queen bees out to help re-populate hives over here as theirs are pure and virus free from the Island having stopped imports a few years ago.
Staffies are softer than you think.

Yes Snoozi I am at Finchale too.  I remember you asking about who owns a swarm.

I'm Alan, I was sitting diagonally across from you (towards the door) last week.
