Many years ago I planted some rasps which tasted fab but I can't remember their name and now we've moved I want to get some more and I don't mind if they're summer or autumn ones.They had that old-fashioned true rasp taste which, though sweet, also had a bit of tang. Can anyone recommend a particular variety?

Joan J is my absolute fav.

My best Raspberry is Autumn Bliss. On my new allotment I have bought that variety and Joan J to try out. I see the Joan J canes are not as good quality as Autumn Bliss.

Wondering if it's a weaker growing that AB?

Just your supplier, I reckon - it's the strongest grower here.

Also got some 'Glen Moy' and 'Glen Ample' somewhere in the row, and they're surprises for a month or so before the others kick in!

Replaced half my row of Autumn Bliss with Joan J last winter, hoping to avoid raspberry replant disease which can happen if you plant in the same soil.

Only partially got away with it, and might have to dig out the strugglers, replace the soil, and plant a couple of spares I grew in fresh soil in their place.

Of the fruit I did get, as is claimed, they were about a third larger than the Autumn Bliss fruit, and definitely had a better flavour, at least as far as my taste buds are concerned.

Ah, thought Joan J might be mentioned. I'll have a look at the Glen ones in case there is an early-cropping variety to keep me going until Joan starts fruiting. Thanks.

I’ve just been trawling around looking for a summer fruiting raspberry and have settled on Glen Fyne after comparing it with a few others. May get a few Joan J after the recommendations on here.
