odd poo content
« on: January 06, 2011, 14:32 »
One of my girls has been passing something odd in her poo, it looks like bits of flesh! Initially I thought it was blood-streaked but on closer inspection it's more solid than that. Is it possible and, indeed, normal for birds to shed some sort of lining that would explain this away? I've found it almost every day for the last week or so when I've poo-picked their house, not much at a time, and figured it would just stop. I have no idea which girl it is - I have 9, mixed.

Staffies are softer than you think.

Thanks joyfull, I'd seen the picture but thought maybe that was an occasional thing, was more concerned that it was ongoing but if you reckon not a problem that's ok by me!
Cheers.

the ones with the intestinal lining can be about every 10 poohs. Could you photograph it, also remember it may not be the same hen depositing it they could all be taking it in turns  :)

:D Oh the joys of inspecting chicken poo!
Sorry, nothing constuctive to add but the thought of someone observing you photographing poo pickings has made my morning.
We've all been there, poking and peering at poo  ;)

Nothing to report yet. The last couple of mornings there's been nothing to photograph in the house so today I've been watching the girls out in the garden & when I see the pose I'm there in a flash to check it out! I really must get a life.....

perfectly normal - the pinky colour is just intestinal lining and all chickens will shed this  :)

Thanks for putting my mind at rest. I hoped it was ok but it seemed to be happening quite a bit recently. Maybe this will help others as well.

P.S. For the benefit of any who have heard of aubiose and wondered what it is, that's what the "sample" is nestling in!
