It depends if your tomatoes are bush ones or not!

If they are not (indeterminate or cordon), it appears you've been given poor advice.

You should pinch out all the side shoots in order to get one vertical growth. This is not just so the plant can concentrate its energy on that one stem,  but it's also important when it comes to ventilation.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

I agree with DD but not with your spelling!   Start to remove leaves fromthe lower areas of your plants.  This will allow air to circulate and ripen the tom's.     If you want to see a greenhouse from hell,  come round 'ere ! ! !   Cheers,   Tony.
I may be growing OLD, but I refuse to grow UP !

Good ventilation also keeps botrytis at bay.

I'm having a similar problem, if it is a problem. It's the first time I've grown bush tomatos and I've realised that I've planted them much too close together. They've swamped the greenhouse with loads of greenery and apparently not much fruit. My plan is to let them just get on with it this year and see if they're worthwhile for next year. If I do grow them again I'll probably grow them outdoors where I think they'd be best suited.

Is botrytis like arthritis but with the pain in a different area?  ::)
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

One of the best things about being an orang-utan is the fact that you don't lose your good looks as you get older

That's not an analogy, you're not comparing it with anything.

Maybe you mean "the moral of the story"!
