keep their house and run clean, give them layers pellets and fresh water all day, then give them a small handfull of mixed corn every afternoon - must be a small handfull otherwise they will get fat and not lay eggs. Worm them two or three times a year, keep checking them for lice and mites. When cleaning their house out disinfect often and use diatom powder on the floor, in their nesting boxes and in any cracks. Use either wood shavings or similar (make sure it has no dust as this is bad for chickens). If you want to use straw in the nest bow then fine or just use shavings - do not use hay. Do a daily pooh pick - put the pooh in a compost bin if you have one as it is a good fertilizer. Make sure they have plenty of areas to wander, an area to dust bath and lots of grass or other greens. Keep them safe from foxes, mink and other animals that could kill them.

Don't forget to talk to them so they get to know the sound of your voice, and if you can spend some time just siiting near them with a handful of corn to offer they will get used to coming to you when you call, (then you won't be able to walk anywhere without tripping over them )
