Any fruit or veg that like boggy areas?
« on: March 25, 2013, 07:00 »
Albertopia is half way up a slope which means that whilst the top drains and stands the risk of being very dry in the summer the bottom resembles a paddy field. Apart from growing rice there is there anything that would tolerate slightly boggy ground? If not then I'll extend the standing area and have pots on it

Celery is a bog plant.

You could try raised beds.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Raised beds would help a bit. Our soil is workable despite the ongoing deluge, and I am convinced that raised beds have contributed to this, along with large amounts of organic matter

and I'll add celeriac to the boggy plant list  ;)

I would think watercress would enjoy it. I grow it in pots which I keep as wet as possible. :)

I believe that Cranberry's like it boggy and acidic but I haven't looked into it in any depth.

I stuck cucumbers in my swampy beds, on raised hills so there was some drainage, and they loved it.
