its it grounding anywhere ? is the machine actually werking ,, takle a 12 volt car bulb and wire it up to make a connection to see if the unit werks ,,  if its not 12 volt current then use the right voltage bulb .. or touch the terminals if you find ur dancing or flat on ya back ,,,,, " werks for you " check the wiring in the fence
still alive /............

hi

we have checked the fence and none of it is touching the ground, we have used isolators and all wire isnt touching anything

the only thing we can think of is maybe the spike shoud be longer

hi

spike, we mean the earthing rod that comes out of the energiser.

another question

got 12 volt bulb with holder, is it a case of connecting a positive and negative from the energiser to the bulb to make a complete circuit, sorry if this sounds a stupid question but we are knew to all this

from pos to negative ,,, if you are not sure what you are doing i would get qualified help  i know its only 12 volts but it isnt the volts that kill ya .. its the amps ,and the unit could be dodgy n wack ya with 90 + amps and take my word for it ,,,,,,,,,,, you will hurt

A red light on the P450 usually indicates that the battery needs recharging or that there is a fault with the unit.
A poor earth or the fence earthing out would only reduce the performance.

Leave the fencer wired up as normal, turn it on, take the RED fence crocodile clip (if you hold it by the plastic you won't get a shock) and bring the metal of the jaws near to, but not touching the earth spike. You should see a bright blue spark arc between the crocodile clip and earth spike with a load crack every few moments.

If you get this then the fencer is working fine and the battery is good.

If you don't get this, then try the fencer on another battery. If this still doesn't work then chances are that the unit is faulty. Hotline units have a 2 year warranty so if it's within that find your receipt and take it back to where you bought it and they will send it away for repair.
If it's older than that then they can still send it back to Hotline for repair, but it will cost you around £35 - £60.

Finally before you try any of that, check you have the battery terminals round the right way

hi guys

thanks for all your advice, couldnt fix the p450 energiser (nightmare) so went and purchased a cheaper one the fence is working well (going to try and get the other one fixed by hotline)

we have our chickens now, we got 10 today 2 silky crosses, 1 cream leghorn, 5x wydonette (not sure of spelling) and 2 orpington crosses, they had not got any warrens or welsummers left which was disappointing but he said he is hatching more shortly so will get some at a later date, I will get some pics done and post on here.

Usually it's user error so if you got your new one working then chances are that you've got a duff one. Not that common with Hotline products.
Glad you've got your fence fox proof anyway.

hi

my sister sent me the hotline P450 when she had finished with it but it hadnt been used for a couple of years, we took it apart checked all the wires and everything seemed fine but for some reason it wasnt sending power to the fence so I think we will send it off to hotline and see if they can fix the problem in the meantime the replacement is working well and as you say we had to have a fox proof fence it wasnt worth the risk of one getting in there

thanks for the advice though much appreciated

pauline :D
