is anyone else trying to be self-sufficient in compost this is my 3rd year at trying. year 1 i went from 12+ 75l bags to 2 then 1 last year this year 1/4 bag from last year,have cheated by spending £1.59 at home bargains on the coir block mixed some with the 1/4 bag for seed sowing the rest with my HMC for potting on seedlings after that straight HMC

I make my own composts not just to be self- sufficient
Most of the commercial stuff is rubbish no more than dust
if its from council recycled its holds weed killers etc

hi barley i have 14 round plastic compost bins and 2 wooden pallet bins all but 1 pallet bin have been empted and used in the last 4 weeks the unused pallet bin is now full as are 4 plastic bins all rotting down for next year even my sprout stalks are gone by then

2 daleks and a large open heap plus 2 leaf mould cages provide me with all the compost I need. This is a pic of some of the lovely stuff from one of the daleks. Better than anything you can buy.
