just bought some rhubarb seeds today called " SWISS CHARD" i am a complete newbe to growing food and wanted to know when to plant the seeds and how long it takes to grow ect

are you sure its rhubarb?

you didnt buy rhubarb you bought chard sow in april and cook the leaves!! it'll die in a year. if you want rhubarb buy "crowns" from a garden shop dont try growing from seed its too hard and disappointing. its called rhubard swiss chard cause the stalks are red like rhubarb but are not actually rhubarb!!

Found rhubarb from seed as easy as an easy thing notorious among all the other easy things for being particularly easy......  and I am certainly not one of the experts.  What was hard however was finding space or good homes for all the plants plus convincing myself to avoid harvesting any too early!

The more sheltered ones are already showing signs of waking up again.

You can eat the stalks of chard, cook like asparagus.

Chard is great stuff to grow and crops for at least nine months. Mine has even stood this winter 

Not the same as rhubarb as you now know, but worth having, and easy to grow

You don't say whether you're on an allotment site or not, but if you are, you may well be able to scrounge some rhubarb as so many people grow it.

ive not got an allotment yet im on about 3 waiting lists so at the moment i thought that it would be a good idea to start growing some veg now like spuds and obviously chard so when i do get offered one i should have some idea about what im doing
