hi,

my success in planters last year was spuds, garlic, and onions. i'm having a plot out front this year, i would love to grow carrots, any advice on the following would be greatly appreciated:

1,  i presume i grow from seed, not like spuds?

2,  when do i plant seeds?

3,  i would like to be using 6ish decent sized carrots a week, how can i stageer things? do i get one crop and store them? or can i stagger planting?

4,  if i store carrots, whats the best way? i have a lot of old outhouses etc i can use, they are old farm buildings so tend to be dry but dark etc? what do i store in, would spuds sacks be ok?

1. Yes from seed
2. Depends what variety you grow - refer to the packet of your chosen carrot, but I start in march
3. Yes you can succession plant, plant a new row every 2/3 weeks. However I cant confirm that you will get the six you require
4.The outhouses will be fine, store them in boxes/trays of sands and dont let the frost/rats/mice get them

i have a load of blue stacking trays in one of the outhouses i'll use them.

frost won't be a problem, don't seem to have a rat problem either, there are a few old holes in the old cow sheds, but i've seen one in the 1.5years i've been here.

any ideas on keeping the mice away? i don't have a massive problem, but there are a few. i could put traps around the trays, is there a better way?

I dont have mice so I cant answer that one, unless to recommend a big cat!
