Weeds on the veg patch
« on: April 19, 2012, 13:57 »
Since I came back from my holiday my garden veg patch has grown a blanket of small weeds over nearly the whole area.  Because my plants are very small it makes identifying what is a weed and what is a plant very dificult.  Will it be ok to wait until I can clealy see what is veg and what is weed before weeding?  Also I have my fairly close together which makes weeding even more difficult  :(

There is a very good posibility the weeds will grow quicker and swamp your veggies.   I should get the hoe out and try your best, even to cutting your hoe down in size a bit if you have planted your veggie rows too close together (been there, done that).

Cheers,     Tony.

If you wait then it's likely that the weeds will overwhelm your seedlings and you'll never see them. Assuming you sowed in a straight line, try putting the line back in place and using this as a guide to hoe and then hand weed near to the line where you should be able to identify your line of seedlings. Better be quick by the sounds of it.

Thanks for your replies, I will get out there and weed as much as possible after work each day, I was a little silly in sowing so close together.  I've just about enough room to walk in between the rows, oh well first time for this year and no doubt I will learn from my mistakes  ::)

A small tool like an onion hoe can be useful for restricted spaces
Self-sufficient in rasberries and bindweed. Slug pellets can be handy.
