This is my second year on allotment, first growing cukes!
Planted one plant just to see how it got on. Realised yesterday that it has grown a lot (leaves) and was entwined with my courgettes. I attached it to a stake and tied it. There are a few tiny (1 or 2 inch) shrivelled cukes but not sure if these are alive or dead! Is there anything else I should be doing?

If they are shrivelled they are probably dead. It would probably be best to carefully remove them from the plant. What variety of cucumber are you growing - this would be helpful to give better advice.

Are they truly shrivelled or just strange and greyish and spiky looking, with a wilted flower still attached?

Sorry not been on for a while.
Yes they are slightly shrivelled and yes they do have the remains of shrivelled flowers and yes they are spiky!
Not sure of variety as bought them in local cheap shop. Actual plant is getting bigger though so that is alive and kicking!

If the plant is growing but the fruits are not I would assume that they are dead and remove them. Cucumbers need lots of water for the fruit to develop but at the same time you have to ensure that the stems do not get wet. Hope this helps.

I got my first cucumber and it tastes delicious!
Don't know whee it came from am sure it wasn't there a couple of days ago.
There it was a good 10 incher.
