Hi I have asked this question before but never really got any conclusive answer and though it may be futile I will try again   I say that in a nice way because everyone will have had different experiences.
So I have just spread well rotted manure on some of my beds on large one which is 6m x 1.5m which I thought I would plant out in the spring with a row of potatoes and two or three nice rows of onions... I then remembered reading that onions on manured ground is maybe not the thing to do because it causes rotting. However further research just muddies the water because some onion growing references say prepare the soil in the autumn with compost and/or well rotted manure ?? Come on chaps and chapesses what is the truth... is there a truth

Both onions and garlic love fertile soil, but they don't love freshly manured soil! As long as the manure is dug in a few months before planting they will do grand!

 I am no dig so they will be planted through the manure anyway but better safe than rotten

It's well rotted so (provided it doesn't contain weed killer) won't cause rot problems. Last year our allium beds were topped with a layer of rotted horse manure and then home made compost. Photo shows some of this years crop, all grown no-dig.

when we follow our crop rotation  plot 1 half plot potatoes main crop  the other half we set our onions crop on then vice-versa so each year the onion bed is well manured prior to planting usually several weeks before planting out no probs
